This image shows the Anarkik3DDesign 3D modelling kit: laptop with the haptic 3D modelling software and the falcon haptic device which replaces the 2D mouse or pad, It is this kit which enables our community of applied artists and designer makers to achieve a great balance between using hand skills and exploiting the benefits of 3D digital technologies such as 3D modelling for 3D printing.

Anne Boylan: “Anarkik3DDesign ….. allowed an unexpected ‘flow’ of ideas that came surprisingly close to experimental studio work. I can now say that Anarkik3DDesign is established as part of my practice!” (here is more about Anne and her work)

Anarkik3D has a number of options to become an Anarkik Creator, for discovering this very intuitive way of 3D modelling, using a haptic device which provides two very important interactions. Firstly it enables you to use your sense of touch and feel (haptics). This is the very real and physical sensation of touching and feeling as you manipulate your three dimensional model. Secondly it enables you to use your proprioceptive sense for interacting and moving your cursor in three dimensions. This is how we interact in the real world. This way of working haptically is fun and enjoyable and enables you to be unique!

By using a haptic device you quickly tap into this more natural way of working on computer, with all the advantages that digital provides, not least undo/redo, copy/paste, share, mirror, slice, scale, subtract, change colour, etc.. (videos here). Best of all Anarkik3DDesign’s haptic integration provides a non complex interface so it is quick and easy to get into and start being creative within an hour! Anarkik3DDesign is optimised for the process of 3D printing.

The options to become an Anarkik Creator are:

  1. Purchase the whole kit: Anarkik3D’s Cloud9 haptic 3D modelling software (for both PC and Mac) from here, and the Falcon haptic device via this link. Or purchase secondhand.
  2. If you are in the UK, Anarkik3D has a scheme whereby you can loan the kit for a monthly fee and a returnable deposit. More info here. If you are a member of Applied Arts Scotland, here is a special offer
  3. Anarkik Creation’s Ann Marie Shillito, CEO of Anarkik3D, provides bespoke training, classes and masterclasses in Edinburgh. Please get in touch with her to discuss your individual requirements.

Ann Marie Shillito is CEO of Anarkik3D and a designer-maker/applied artist in her own right. She enriches her work by using 2nd life materials, either for the 3D printer filament or by embedding/framing precious waste material into her work. Her blog posts (‘Sustainable Me’) cover this work, and information about responsible practice is shared in her courses and masterclasses. She is a member of Making Design Circular.
