2nd life materials

This category ‘2nd life materials’ is for our most sustainable designs, those which bestow a 2nd life to our left-over materials. In this way we keep them out of the bin and give them value, transformed through creative use of 3D technologies and hand-making into pieces to cherish for their quality and ecological thoughtfulness.

Designer makers and applied artists support an ecology of responsible practice regarding the circular economy and designing out waste, keeping products and materials in use, respecting and adding value to all the materials they use. Much of their resource is in 2nd life materials and their stories.

Anarkik creators believe in the preciousness of all plastics, that the beautiful objects they create are potentially forever, and that through their stories and a ‘closing the loop’ strategy, when damaged or less loved, can be returned to the maker to be repurposed into a cherished 3rd, even 4th life.

The purpose of this ‘2nd life materials’ category is to offer you, a person willing to own expressive, contemporary objects and jewellery, beautiful thoughtful work that demonstrates the importance of protecting the natural environment!

Pieces you purchase will come with information regarding their stories, attributes and how you can close the loop.

  • This image shows a necklace made from 3D printed large red swirls joined wirh black O-rings. The inspiration for the Red Red necklace came via Ann Marie Shillito's lockdown project exploring 3D printing on fabric and other stuff as she had direct access to a desktop 3D printer and experimented with embedding materials during the 3D printing process. She loves O-rings for their potential, particularly as links as they are flexible and robust. These are left over from an earlier project and ideal for joining the units into a necklace during the 3D printing process. Just love the red and black combination.

Our designer makers combine traditional handmaking skills with 3D digital technologies, specifically Anarkik3DDesign software hence ‘Anarkik Creations’. They professionally hand finished their 3D printed models. It takes a little longer but it’s worth the wait.

Our other services are Anarkik3DDesign loan scheme and masterclasses. Internationally renown artist, Katja Prins, says: “Last October (2023) I did a Masterclass Anarkik3DDesign with Ann Marie and it was absolutely wonderful! Ann Marie shared so generously her knowledge and took all the time for me.
She also anticipated on things that would benefit my practise but that I could not imagine myself since I don’t know all the ins&outs of the program, but of course she does. I learned so much more than I thought I would!” Hence my designing has speeded up so much, all is going so much easier now since I now understand the program a lot better and know more all the possibilities.
Besides this I just had a very good time since she’s such lovely company!
